Pros and cons of Osmosis: Medical School Notes app for iPhone and iPad

Osmosis: Medical School Notes app good for

Its simple. Its a resource that covers almost everything you need to know in medical school in the first year and the second year. Getting at the information in a variety of ways is one of the best ways to learn the volume of material covered in medical school Here is one of the best ways to do it. Flash cards pre-built and ones you can make yourself that are built off a staggered review system, concise explanations of all diseases, embedded First Aid and Wikipedia resources, drill down into one disease or cover entire systems, and 100s of USMLE style questions to test your mettle. Easy to use, easy to excel at, and an awesome way to study while on the move. Learn on the go, or sitting down when coupled with Osmosis Prime on your computer. You have your phone with you 24/7, why not have your medical school as well?
The best app to prepare for the USMLE. The ability to create schedule, views video lesions, it shows what you know and what is bad. And of course the training tests.
Ive been subscribed to this program for some time and it helps organize my studying, increase accessibility to questions and flashcards, and retain information better. Its all I wanted. The staff is responsive to your needs.
Osmosis is an amazing application that not only allows students to keep all of their coursework in a organized platform, but also uses that same coursework to formulate personalized practice materials. This includes flashcards, practice questions, videos, etc., all based on coursework that you are currently studying. Osmosis also keeps you on your toes by sending "push questions" to your mobile devices throughout the day, so you are continuously learning new things and are constantly exposed to practice questions. There are also tons of additional practice questions in all categories and organ systems available at your own leisure. These are just a few of the many components Osmosis uses to help students succeed in their studies. Since joining Osmosis I have had a wonderful experience. Communication through an in-platform messaging system allows quick and effective delivery, and everyone at Osmosis is extremely caring and willing to help you in any way they can. I absolutely LOVE Osmosis and the services they provide. I wish that I joined earlier because now I cannot see myself studying without it.
The Osmosis App is really great. Its simple to use and works smoothly. It is a great accompaniment with the Osmosis Prime package. With the Prime package you can access thousands of questions and flash cards on a variety of topics (anatomy, GI system, cardiovascular system etc.) from the App. Its therefore the perfect way to prepare yourself for a test or just a way to ensure that you understand the related content. The "push questions" are an extremely useful feature of the App. The App sends you several questions as notifications throughout the day that ensures that youre continuously revising and storing information to your long term memory. Thoroughly love the App and Osmosis!
This app paired with the website are great tools to utilize throughout school and exam preparation. Instead of spending time creating flash cards to solidify concepts, osmosis has done that for you so you can dive right in. The question bank is helpful to master concepts. I find the links of each subject to medscape, Google and picmonic very useful. The platform is also reasonably priced and the customer service team is very responsive. I highly recommend this platform.

Some bad moments

This program is difficult to navigate and doesnt offer nearly the quality of resources that other programs have. It sounds like a good idea, but they have simply not made the improvements necessary to make this a time-friendly resource. Their customer support is responsive but often rude. I would highly recommend that you spend you money elsewhere on resources you will actually use (like Sketchy, UWorld, and First Aid) and skip this one. While they do provide the thousands of flash cards and practice questions they claim to, they aret really any better than the brosencephalon First Aid deck one can find for free on Anki. They will surely respond to this review by saying that they vet their information and cant imagine how anyone would not find their resources useful, but the fact is that I didnt and there are very few reviews out there about this product that dont come directly from Osmosis.
This is an excellent app for consolidating content- cant wait for more questions! That being said, this app is definitely not at the difficulty level of STEP 1 questions. Most questions are first or second order, where true STEP 1 stuff is at least second order questions. But, given that this app is intended for working on medical material, not explicitly STEP 1 study prep - I think it does get the job done!
First off, Im writing this toward the end of my medicine clerkship and Im using it on an iPhone 5 (which I dont suggest using for this app). Overall, many of the questions in this app are good, though at least one referred to an image that wasnt in the question. Another referred to a lecture that of course isnt available to me. Nonetheless many are helpful for understanding crucial topics. I only wish it had more questions. However, there are a few very annoying things that drop another star for me. 1. Its an extremely power hungry app. Ive run high res games on my iPhone 5 that dont drain the battery as quickly as this app. Not sure where the leak is. 2. Its choppy! It often takes multiple swipes to scroll down and the scrolling is choppy at best. At worst, I cant get it to scroll at all. Ive skipped reading answer explanations after being fed up with this before. 3. The placement of the question rating buttons is obviously well-intentioned but somewhat of a failure. Often if I go to click on an answer explanation, the rating pops out instead covering the answer. This forces me to either scroll down (which is hard enough already) or just leave the erroneous rating and go to the next problem. 4. The "swiping to get around" method is good for going from one question to the next, but thats it. I truly wish theyd use a real menu and not force me to swipe back and forth, up and down until I find what Im looking for. Another med student looking over my shoulder based her decision not to download the app on this. Its such a simple thing and the makers chose not only a tough implementation but one thats not user-friendly either.
Ive been using Osmosis for about a month and have recently become an ambassador for my med school. Try out the initial question bank and if you like it, act soon to get the discount for permanent access. No expensive monthly subscriptions like the big competitors. Contrary to a comment I just read, you arent required to have a .edu address. Although you dont get immediate access, you arent likely to have to wait more than a day or two. This is actually for a great purpose, as they are trying to help provide custom content to students at each medical school. This app is extremely helpful for all students - premed, medical, and beyond. Its more aimed at the MS1 and MS2 years right now, but they are working to add content that will be for your clinical and residency years.
Excellent content and quick interface, but the UI is bad overall: difficult to navigate, often I accidentally miss-rate a question, need to be able to import cards from various sources (interop or die), and look into spaced repetition. Overall, Id still recommend using it to remind you to do a question now and then.
This app is awesome, a great improvement to what was an already outstanding app. The Osmose with Friends aspect was a genius addition and I really love the UI update, everything flows much smoother. Well done Team Knowledge Diffusion, well done.
