Osmosis: Medical School Notes App Reviews

Love Osmosis!

I love being able to organize lecture material along with high yield info from First Aid, Picmonic, and several other resources! The 3D anatomy flashcards and review tables saved me during my Skin and Musculoskeletal block. Highly highly recommend! The only wish I have is the ability to write directly on the slides when you are taking notes.

Great for consolidating content, not exactly STEP 1 Prep

This is an excellent app for consolidating content- cant wait for more questions! That being said, this app is definitely not at the difficulty level of STEP 1 questions. Most questions are first or second order, where true STEP 1 stuff is at least second order questions. But, given that this app is intended for working on medical material, not explicitly STEP 1 study prep - I think it does get the job done!

Good but power hungry and choppy

First off, Im writing this toward the end of my medicine clerkship and Im using it on an iPhone 5 (which I dont suggest using for this app). Overall, many of the questions in this app are good, though at least one referred to an image that wasnt in the question. Another referred to a lecture that of course isnt available to me. Nonetheless many are helpful for understanding crucial topics. I only wish it had more questions. However, there are a few very annoying things that drop another star for me. 1. Its an extremely power hungry app. Ive run high res games on my iPhone 5 that dont drain the battery as quickly as this app. Not sure where the leak is. 2. Its choppy! It often takes multiple swipes to scroll down and the scrolling is choppy at best. At worst, I cant get it to scroll at all. Ive skipped reading answer explanations after being fed up with this before. 3. The placement of the question rating buttons is obviously well-intentioned but somewhat of a failure. Often if I go to click on an answer explanation, the rating pops out instead covering the answer. This forces me to either scroll down (which is hard enough already) or just leave the erroneous rating and go to the next problem. 4. The "swiping to get around" method is good for going from one question to the next, but thats it. I truly wish theyd use a real menu and not force me to swipe back and forth, up and down until I find what Im looking for. Another med student looking over my shoulder based her decision not to download the app on this. Its such a simple thing and the makers chose not only a tough implementation but one thats not user-friendly either.

Pure Genius and worth checking out

Ive been using Osmosis for about a month and have recently become an ambassador for my med school. Try out the initial question bank and if you like it, act soon to get the discount for permanent access. No expensive monthly subscriptions like the big competitors. Contrary to a comment I just read, you arent required to have a .edu address. Although you dont get immediate access, you arent likely to have to wait more than a day or two. This is actually for a great purpose, as they are trying to help provide custom content to students at each medical school. This app is extremely helpful for all students - premed, medical, and beyond. Its more aimed at the MS1 and MS2 years right now, but they are working to add content that will be for your clinical and residency years.

Good start but lots of work to go

Excellent content and quick interface, but the UI is bad overall: difficult to navigate, often I accidentally miss-rate a question, need to be able to import cards from various sources (interop or die), and look into spaced repetition. Overall, Id still recommend using it to remind you to do a question now and then.

Absolutely Phenomenal!

This app is awesome, a great improvement to what was an already outstanding app. The Osmose with Friends aspect was a genius addition and I really love the UI update, everything flows much smoother. Well done Team Knowledge Diffusion, well done.

Keeps me sharp

As a med student, its easy to let all the info you cram in your head leak back out after that last big test is over. Osmosis helps me retain all my hard work without much time commitment.

Amazing content with great accuracy

Only thing missing is Biostatistics. The update is excellent. Keep it up guys!!

Not so great

Love the idea of the app. But the questions are really pretty poorly written. Once you start using Kaplan q bank and UWorld you quickly realize these questions are inadequate and do not cover the same material in a way thats useful. Probably a good general study tool, but definitely not recommended for step 1 studying.

Highly Suggested!!

After using Osmosis for a little over 6 months prior to matriculating this August, I believe this program has improved my knowledge base and prepared me for the materials Ill be encountering during my M1 and M2 year. Though osmosis is geared towards improving the performance on the USMLE, I believe that this new initiative will be crucial in the movement to seeing the patient as more than a clinical vignette. This is the perfect application to use for your preclinical years, M1 & M2, and also sets up the foundation for being successful during the clinical years of medical school. Highly recommended.

Best Medical Review App Hands-down

I first heard about Osmosis Medical training program when I was studying for my step one exam about a year ago and once I tried it based on a friends recommendation. I was instantly hooked and intrigued by the programs ability to motivate me and provide feedback not only in the form of answers and explanations but also the ability to correlate confidence levels with problem-solving abilities and the presentation of this data to the user. This program is innovative and groundbreaking and I can definitely see this program growing and succeeding and can easily be the next golden standard of education as it is individualized to each students abilities. Furthermore I have yet to encounter any review program with questions that so closely resemble shelf and USMLE examination questions. Without this program I would not have succeeded the way I did on my step one examination. -- M4, Meharry Medical College

Great app for Med Students!

While Powerpoints and in-person lectures have a beneficial effect on a select few during Medical School, Osmosis uses a unique and valuable approach to Medical Education. Time is precious in medicine and this is a great app for a quick-hit session of 10 questions to further your knowledge on a broad range of topics or a more focused subject. Highly recommended!

Great for smooth integration with other study materials.

The Osmosis style is so refreshing, with its clean, smooth and user-friendly apps, providing a nice contrast to the clunky operation of the other study materials out there (NBME, USMLEWorld). The cost cannot be beaten, and the ability to sync with your tests throughout the year was something I appreciate more completely in hindsight, and didnt take enough advantage of at the time.

Most useful app Ive ever used!!!!

This is literally the most helpful study tool Ive used in my life. Cant say enough about how helpful this is.

Amazing!

This app is perfect for review for my PBL-based med school and provides great explanations and video links with each question. Highly recommended!

One of the best QBanks out there!

I recently discovered Osmosis and regret not knowing about it sooner! I own every QBank (from UWorld, USMLERx, Kaplan, Firecracker, etc etc) and Osmosis really surpasses them all. They incorporate fun "real people" Scenarios and questions into their QBank (for example, the question is about a 50 year old man with this manifestation on his nose and presents with this, etc etc etc and it comes to find out that it was talking about Hugh Jackman and his history of skin cancer!). This really, REALLY helps you retain the knowledge. They also add in short YouTube videos to help solidify the knowledge, give phenomenal explanations, and provide you with in-depth analyses on your strengths and weaknesses. You can also choose the topics you want to cover, which is great for me since I havent covered all the blocks in class, yet. Seriously, I love this program and wish I had known about it sooner.

Osmosis review

Medical school is by no means "easy". We struggle each day to try and memorize/learn the information that is hauled towards us. Osmosis allows the student using it to take this information, spread it out on this platform, and access the information in a way that not only makes sense, but that will also promote active learning. I recommend that this application be used by as many medical students as possible. Although there is a lot of information out there, osmosis has made me realize that there are just as many students and professionals in medicine. Thus, by working together through Osmosis, medical education can become a fun, active, and enlightening experience.

Definitely recommend, especially Osmose with your Friends!

Osmosis is unlike any medical app Ive seen. Its extremely intuitive and cleanly designed. I love how it sends me push notifications to remind me of important medical concepts and facts, and that the questions integrate images and videos. I definitely recommend Osmosis to my fellow medical students. The new version is even better! I can play against my friends and have fun while learning/reviewing.

Osmosis has started down a revolutionary path in medical education. It has found a way to integrate both classroom and board exams in a way that has never been done before. It also offers great video resources for many of its questions and offers links for further study of the resource as you desire. Osmosis has bridged the gap between board exams and classroom prep and this will change the face of medical education forever.

The explanations and rationales for the correct and incorrect answers help to solidify the material. Also, many of the questions are formatted close to the questions on the boards, and contain a wide range of relevant information that students need to know. The short question sets are great for studying on the go or when you have a couple extra minutes. The
